July trip to Utah - part 1

We were so excited to spend the 4th of July in Utah. Provo sure knows how to celebrate! The Grand Parade and the Stadium of Fire have been part of my 4th as long as I can remember. Since the holiday was on a Sunday the Stadium of Fire was Saturday night and the Parade was Monday morning.

We left California on Friday the 2nd and were planning to stay at my Grandma's condo in St. George. We usually stay there when we go back and forth. Max did ok on the drive. He had a hard time staying asleep when it got past bed time but around midnight we rolled into St. George. The only problem was, we COULD NOT find the key. It wasn't where it was supposed to be. It was much too late to call anyone and Max was asleep so we just decided to drive one more hour to Cedar City and get a hotel. It was sometime around 1am when we got into our room - the honeymoon suite with the jacuzzi in the main room was all that was available- LOL!
Max woke up during the check in process and was wide awake and ready to party. I set up the pack and play which he hadn't slept in since October of last year, 9 months ago. We did our normal bed time routine and put him in it. He really didn't understand that he was supposed to sleep in there, had no clue where we were, and wondered what mom and dad were doing sleeping in the same room as him. After 15 minutes or so of crying I pulled him out and put him on our bed with us. He thought this was so funny and just rolled around poking our eyes and giggling. We tried the pack and play again, more crying. Finally I picked him up and rocked him for what seemed like forever, but he was asleep so I laid him down, he woke right up. Jared took a turn, I took a turn, Jared took a turn and then a couple hours later I woke up to Jared asleep on the couch with Max asleep on his chest. None of us had enough rest but we finally made it to Provo a few hours later! hooray!

That evening we had a family photo shoot by the Provo River with my Parents and 6 out of 7 of their kids, spouses and grandchildren. It was fun to be able to see everyone all together and Max sure loves his cousins! Here are a few pics I took with my camera during the shoot. Hopefully I'll get some of the professional ones with everyone in them to share!

We had almost the exact same experience with Annabelle going to UT - except we stopped in Vegas. But she had no interest in sleeping at midnight when we rolled in, let alone her pack n play... so we tried to have her in our bed... no luck there. Finally, David started to play with her- he threw things across the room for her to bring back, over and over, and finally she went to sleep at 3am!
